Unable to Verify macOS Version? 5 Ways to Solve the Problem

Many macOS Catalina users are encountering the problem of being unable to open the apps because macOS verifies them. This issue is generally experienced after updating to the new software. The verification process takes more than 30 minutes to complete.

Installing problematic apps could start the verification. Gatekeeper restrictions could also be the reason. Erasing Mac and reinstalling macOS can provide the solution. Why Could macOS Not Be Verified?

Before you learn the solution to macOS could not be verified, take a look over the reasons behind it. The incompatibility issue between your Mac model and the update you’re trying to access could be a reason.

Boot in Safe Mode



The primary solution is to boot Mac in Safe Mode. On a silicon-based Mac, select the Apple menu and then Shut Down. Tap and hold the Power button. Release it when Loading startup options appear.

Choose a volume and press and hold the Shift key. Tap Continue in Safe Mode. On an Intel-based Mac, restart your Mac device. Tap and hold the Shift key until you observe the login window. Log in to your device and log in again when asked.    

Turn Off Content Caching

Are you still experiencing macOS Monterey could not be verified or similar errors? This message is faced after downloading the macOS Monterey installer. It appears from data & time settings and cached content with a user account.

To solve this error:

1. Tap the Apple menu and access System Preferences.

2. Click Sharing and lock.

3. Choose Content Caching and make sure it is disabled.

4. Choose All Content in Cache and restart your Mac.

Change Date & Time

If turning off Content Caching doesn’t solve the error “unable to verify macOS Monterey”, try this method. Tap on the Apple icon and open System Preferences. Locate the Date & Time and open it.

Choose the Date & Time panel and tap the lock. It will be available at the lower left of the screen. Unmark it and again check the option that says Set date and time automatically. Click the lock to save changes, and then restart your device. Download the update again.    

Reboot Mac and Install macOS

If you can’t install macOS 10.15 after downloading it successfully, then reboot your Mac. After rebooting your Mac device, once again, download macOS Catalina. After you reboot your Mac, open System Preferences.

Now, hit Software Update. Your Mac will find the latest update. When Mac finds the update, click More Info. Tap on Update Now. After the update, restart your device and select Restart and Not Now.

Boot into macOS Recovery


Boot Mac into the Recovery Mode to run First Aid. Switch on Mac and press and hold Command and R after listening to startup music. Release the keys when the Apple icon appears on the screen.

Now, you’ll see the utility window on the screen. Select Disk Utility and tap Continue. Select the drive to repair and tap the First Aid option at the top of the utility window. Hit on the Run button to continue.
